Fanatec's Clubsport pedals V2 bring improved brake and clutch feel to the virtual speedway (video)

Fanatec's Clubsport pedals V2 bring improved brake and clutch feel to the virtual speedway (video)

Around these parts, we're generally suckers for all things related to racing simulators. As such, we're excited to learn that Fanatec has unveiled its next generation of the Clubsport pedals that we reviewed over a year ago. Dubbed as the Clubsport pedals V2, the company refers to the peripheral as an "evolutionary" update to original, offering a trio of improvements. The clutch has been retooled to have a "regressive feel" that's said to be similar to a real automobile, while the brake is now of the hydraulic variety, featuring user replaceable synthetic oil -- naturally, it still has an adjustable spring and load cell pressure sensor for the utmost customizability. The final touch is merely some visual spice in the way of black anodization. Notably, there won't be any tuning kit available initially, and V1 owners might be disappointed to know that the company has opted not to offer an upgrade kit, citing costs and potentially complicated installation. Fanatec is aiming to have the Clubsport pedals V2 out by June, bundled alongside its Clubsport wheel, with pricing set at $250 for the US (€250 in the UK). Pre-orders won't begin until May, so in the meantime, shift over to the source link below and the video past the break for all the details.

Where Does Brandy's 'Behind The Music' Rank On All-Time List?

Singer reveals eating disorder, feelings about deadly car crash and secret affair with Boyz II Men singer.
By Gil Kaufman

For the past 15 years, VH1's "Behind the Music" has chronicled the ups, downs and back ups of countless musicians' lives and careers. The show has traced the roller-coaster of fame rides by the likes of everyone from Aerosmith to Vanilla Ice, Mötley Crüe, Milli Vanilla, Madonna, 50 Cent and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The formula is beyond predictable by now: wide-eyed musician(s) with prodigious talent has meteoric rise to fame, tragedy strikes in the form of drug addiction/death of close friend/label rip-off/career tank or any number of other obstacles, but not before said artist manages to rise above and make it back to the spotlight. Except when they don't, as in the case of such tragic figures as Aaliyah, the Notorious B.I.G. or Rick James.

But this week VH1 brought us the story of Brandy Norwood, the world-beating 1990s star whose resume of drama made for one of the most quintessential episodes in the show's long history. And, in another of the show's impressive traditions, Brandy opened up about some major issues that have never been dealt with in public in quite this way.

Like Missy Elliott revealing her serious health issues last year or Nas providing the most detail to date about his failed marriage to Kelis, Brandy put all her cards on the table, revealing for the first time that she hid her teenage affair with Boyz II Men singer Wanya Morris from her family and fans for years, struggled with anorexia and bulimia as well as talking about her fake marriage to music producer Robert Smith that was concocted to cover up her out-of-wedlock child. The latter, she says, almost destroyed her career for good. She also discussed her reaction to the death of mentor and good friend, Whitney Houston, who died on Brandy's birthday in February, just days after Houston had given Brandy words of encouragement about her revived career.

The capper was her emotional discussion of the December 2006 car accident she caused on a California highway that took the life of a 38-year-old mother of two. "It was just one of those experiences you wish would never happen to anybody," she said. "That was one of the worst times of my life ... someone lost their life and now everyone is saying that I'm to blame." Though she escaped a manslaughter prosecution in the case, the incident clearly had a profound effect on the singer and her reaction provided one of the most emotional moments in the series' history.

"Still to this day people ... they know that that's a button," she said tearfully. "They know that they can call me a murderer, or call me someone that killed someone ... they know that that is a button for me."

This season has already seen a return to the tragic death of Aaliyah in a plane crash, Nas' struggle to deal with the death of his mother and the dissolution of his marriage, T-Pain's heartbreaking battle to break free of his domineering father, Akon's controversial car-boosting past and The Game's battles with his label and former mentor 50 Cent.

But of all the classic tragic stories of rappers and rock bands tested by death, drugs and disorder (Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Metallica, T.I., Motley Crue, Leif Garrett, Def Leppard and DMX), Brandy's stands out as one of the most emotionally wrenching stories of the modern pop era. And, thankfully for her, with a new album on the way and a steady relationship, as well as another hit single with pal Monica, Brandy's story appears to be conforming to the formula just fine.

Parenting Strategies for Single Fathers

This article has been viewed 16 times.

The art of parenting can sometimes be a handful and give the impression that it will be endless. In addition to the normal, everyday issues, there are often special situations such as traveling with small children. Regardless of what you are doing as a family, your children totally rely on you for everything. As a parent you are blessed with making sure that any wrinkles that come up are taken care of. But you can only do so much preparation, and it usually seems there is at least one situation that never occurred to you. Logically, the one circumstance you might have thought you had covered will arise; just to prove there is never a dull moment in parenting.

Of course, we all have our unique personalities, so that goes without saying. Still, as a new father, do not forget to tweak your disposition and character around small children. The last thing you will want to do is place uncalled for or unintentional apprehension into young kids. Being an aggressive alpha male has a right time and place out in the world. However, when you are at home and working with your young kids, it is pointless to be full throttle. We realize it can be hard to remember this, although making a strong effort to lessen it at home will have an encouraging influence.

Its a good idea to explore some of the less pleasant aspects of co-sleeping too. The number one concern parents discuss is that the baby will never want to sleep in a bed of his or her own. There will come a time when its time to move the baby into a different bed. There will be many mitigating factors but youll have to find the right time to move on that works best for you.

Too much anxiety in this situation will be stressful for everyone though. Some parents, after all, are worried that their romantic life will suffer. See what other parents have to save about what it meant for their sex lives.

Do not ever avoid a good moment to have some fun with your children. Yes, dads, we are speaking to you! You only have a few years of your child being young and you being able to do silly and enjoyable things with them. Once they become teens, they will just roll their eyes at you and it will make them uncomfortable. Your children will get to see the real you, if you engage in these kinds of activities. Furthermore, they will be able to see that you want to spend time with them because you love and accept them. When it comes to their sense of worth, those feelings that your children experience will work phenomenally.

Being a parenting father whos single can yield some excellent chances to improve yourself personally, and the experience can be very rewarding too. We would urge you to learn more about the issues faced by single fathers as it will only help you become more successful.

Report cites fracking-related activities as potential suspect in minor quakes

The rate of minor earthquakes from Colorado to Ohio has quickened in the past decade. But the report doesn't make a direct link between fracking and quakes, notes an Interior official.

Federal research scientists are linking the deep underground injection of waste water from oil and gas exploration to a major increase in minor earthquakes from Colorado to Ohio.

A modest increase in such quakes was noticed beginning in 2001 in coal-bed methane fields near the Colorado-New Mexico border. That number accelerated rapidly from 2009 through 2011 and was especially pronounced in the oil and gas fields of northern Arkansas and central and southern Oklahoma, the scientists found.

Across that region, 50 earthquakes were larger than magnitude 3 in 2009. The number rose to 87 quakes in 2010 and reached 134 earthquakes in 2011 ? more than six times the annual average levels recorded from 1970 to 2000.

The large jump is "a remarkable increase" in the rate of minor earthquakes that is "almost certainly manmade," according to the abstract of a new study by US Geological Survey scientists, which is expected to be delivered at a scientific conference next week in San Diego. The full study was unavailable.

In Oklahoma, for instance, the rate of earthquakes larger than magnitude 3 (considered a minor quake) abruptly increased around 2009 ? rising from 1.2 per year over the past half century to more than 25 per year, the study found.

"A naturally-occurring rate change of this magnitude is unprecedented outside of volcanic settings or in the absence of a main shock, of which there were neither in this region," the study abstract notes.

Even though the higher frequency indicates that quakes are probably being induced by human activity, "it remains to be determined how they are related to either changes in extraction methodologies or the rate of oil and gas production," the abstract says.

In an interview with the online news service Energy Wire, lead study author William Ellsworth, a USGS scientist, called the increase that his team documented "very peculiar."

The soaring number of quakes overlaps with a huge jump in the amount of drilling for natural gas occurring in shale beds ? an approach called "fracking," which produces millions of gallons of waste water. While some fracking waste water is treated aboveground, much of it is injected into deep waste-water wells.

Is that activity inducing man-made earthquakes by lubricating the faces of underground earthquake faults, so that they slip and slide more easily and frequently?

Not according to a senior Department of Interior official, who was quick to note that no link between quakes and fracking has been established ? even if the waste water from the process, when injected, might be behind the quake mystery.

The USGS findings "do not suggest that hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as ?fracking,? causes the increased rate of earthquakes," David Hayes, deputy secretary of Interior, wrote on his blog Wednesday.

While it appears likely that the increased rate of earthquakes is man-made, it's unclear if that is related to changes in production methods or the rate of oil and gas production, he wrote.

"USGS?s scientists have found, however, that at some locations the increase in seismicity coincides with the injection of wastewater in deep disposal wells," he continued. Even so, "[w]e also find that there is no evidence to suggest that hydraulic fracturing itself is the cause of the increased rate of earthquakes."
